CPI (M) leaders strongly criticized BJP led governments over corruption, price hikes
Demanding the withdrawal of the increased prices of electricity, CNG, PNG, drinking water, and Gomati milk, and protesting the installation of smart electric meters without considering consumers’ objections, the Tripura Left Front Committee on Wednesday organized a mass sit-in demonstration at Orient Chowmuhani area of Agartala.
While, addressing the gathering amidst intermittent rain, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar through his scathing attack on the ruling BJP claimed that present BJP led Tripura government has now totally indulge into mass corruption and accused the BJP-led government of unleashing a ‘reign of loot’ in past seven years across the state.
Sarkar alleged that institutional corruption has spread to part of the administration and everywhere of the state administration including in Autonomous District Council (ADC) by BJP and their alliance partner Tipra Matha .
Highlighting BJP’s poll promises, Sarkar said that in 2018 and again in 2023, the BJP made ten grand promises to the people of Tripura, so far they did not maintain their promises and now, they are imposing one after one tax on the people and people over burdened with constant hikes in common services along with high inflation.
He further alleged that despite the BJP being in power at the Centre, it has failed to support the states in fulfilling their commitments. During the election campaign, even the Union Finance Minister promised central financial support, which was only a poll gimmick, said Sarkar.
While addressing the gathering CPI(M) state secretary and opposition leader Jitendra Chaudhury echoed the concerns and accused the BJP government of betraying state people.
“The people of the state now realise that this RSS-backed BJP government came to power through false promises and they misled the voters with a lucrative poll manifesto, but it has not brought any relief to common people.
The life of common people day by day became miserable and BJP governments instead of giving relief to common people, are hiking one after one prices of utility services, said Chaudhury and alleged that amidst high inflation , now they are even pushing smart electric meters onto consumers despite widespread objections.
Chaudhury also blamed Tipra Matha for aligning with the BJP in the 2023 elections, alleging that it helped the BJP retain power and the same loot is going on in the Autonomous District Council (ADC) administration.
Apart from former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, CPI(M) State Secretary Jitendra Choudhury, former minister Manik Dey, and other leaders of Left Front also addressed the gathering.
