Sensation has gripped the Paharmura Baidyanath Chowmuhani area of Khowai district following a daring theft at a wholesale grocery shop, where the burglars disconnected the CCTV cables and power supply before carrying out the crime.

Sources said that grocery wholesaler Sagar Paul closed his shop at the usual time yesterday and returned home. Later during the night, a group of thieves allegedly cut through the shop’s tin fencing and entered the premises.

The burglars reportedly disconnected the CCTV cables and electricity connection first, apparently to prevent their activities from being recorded. They then allegedly fled with around Rs10,000 in cash kept in the shop’s cash box, along with several valuable items from the shop.

The stealing came to light when Sagar Paul arrived at the shop on Friday morning and found signs of the break-in. He subsequently informed the Khowai police station about the incident.

Police have reportedly launched an investigation into the theft. Investigators are examining how the burglars gained entry and are working to identify those involved in the incident.

The daring theft in a populated area has created concern among residents of Paharmura. The focus is now on the police investigation and whether those responsible thieves can be identified and brought to justice.
