Death of a man from central jail to hospital, family demands enquiry
In a bizarre incident, one wanted person after getting bail from court, put behind the bars of Central jail and was admitted to hospital after his health condition deteriorated and on Monday morning died at GB Hospital.
Sources said that one Bimal Sarkar (40) of bordering Lankamura area of Agartala was wanted in case of attempt to break an ATM five years ago.
On March 27, police personnel from Ramnagar town outpost (TOP) rushed to his house to execute a pending warrant. Later, on March 28, Bimal Sarkar was produced before the authority of Ramnagar TOP by his wife, then police arrested him and produced before a local court in Agartala.
After hearing, the court granted his bail, but his family persons in absence of a guarantor were unable to take back his custody and the court shifted him to central jail in Bishalgarh. The court also asked his family to get his official bail and release on March 29.
By the time on the same day, police informed Bimal Sarkar’s family that he is suffering from some ailments and was admitted to GB Hospital from Central jail.
After three days of treatment in the hospital, Bimal Sarkar on Monday morning succumbed to death and his body was shifted to hospital morgue for autopsy.
Soon after report of his death, all of his family members including father, wife, two daughters and other relatives gathered in front of the morgue and demanded proper enquiry over the untimely death of Bimal.
His wife alleged that despite the court granting his bail, police did not release him and shifted her husband to the central jail. She also alleged that due to inhuman activities of police and jail personnel, her husband died and demanded proper enquiry to unearth the reason for her husband's death.
