DG-BSF visits Tripura, reviews security scenario along Indo-Bangla border

Amidst turmoil in Bangladesh and  high alertness  in India's bordering areas with the neighbouring country where the situation has become extremely volatile following protests over a quota-related issue and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina leaving the country after resigned, the Director General (DG) of Border Security Force,  Daljit Singh Chawdhary accompanied by ADG  Ravi Gandhi  arrived on a one day visit to Agartala to review the security and operational preparedness of  BSF on Indo-Bangladesh border.

BSF sources said that DG BSF landed at the Agartala Airport Wednesday morning, where he was received by Patel Piyush Purusottam Das, IG BSF of Tripura Frontier.

DG BSF was given an operational briefing by IG Tripura Frontier and further DG BSF chaired a meeting with senior officers of BSF and discussed the ongoing law and order situation in Bangladesh and its implications on the security scenario.

Daljit Singh Chawdhary while reviewing the operational preparedness, applauded the tireless efforts and dedication in safeguarding the borders and the efforts made to prevent infiltration and trans-border crimes effectively on the Indo-Bangladesh border by BSF Tripura.

He further had a meeting with DG of Tripura Police, Amitabh Ranjan and ADG (law and order) Anurag Dhankar on various issues pertaining to the state. Later, in the afternoon, DG-BSF left for Delhi.

BSF sources in Agartala said that all senior border guarding officials and commandants had rushed to the border, and had been maintaining tight vigilance along the frontiers after massive protest, violence in Bangladesh on Monday (August 5) last, which has forced to PM Sheikh Hasina resigned and leave the country towards New Delhi.

"Our troops are on high alert along the border with Bangladesh. We have sealed the entire Tripura border with Bangladesh," the official said and added that all the battalions and companies of BSF deployed across Tripura border are deployed in the frontier.

He also said that in the backdrop of the chaos and unrest in Bangladesh, no untoward incident or infiltration bid so far has happened along the India-Bangladesh border areas and if any untoward situation arises in border, then guards are instructed to use non-lethal Pump Action Guns (PAG) and if necessary ‘shoot at sight’ order issued.

The top BSF official of Tripura frontier added that BSF is on high alert across the country's 4,096 km border with Bangladesh, with field commanders ordered to take "on ground" positions and be prepared for anything.

Five Indian states – West Bengal, Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Assam -- share a total of 4,096-km border with Bangladesh.
