Dipak Majumder wins Ramnagar by-election with massive margin
The Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Dipak Majumder, who was contested the by-poll for 7-Ramnagar assembly constituency as BJP candidate won the by-election by defeating his CPI(M) candidate Ratan Das by a margin of 18,014 votes.
Majumder, secured 25,380 votes while Ratan Das, also an INDIA Bloc nominee managed only 7,366 votes. Ratan Das, a former CPI (M) MLA from the same constituency and incumbent secretary of CPI(M) West Tripura district committee.
The by-election to the Ramnagar Assembly seat was held on April 19 along with the first phase election for Lok Sabha. The seat fell vacant after the demise of sitting BJP MLA Surajit Datta on December 28 last year.
