In a major success against narcotics trafficking, police seized a huge quantity of dry Cannabis (Ganja) weighing around 148 kilograms during a joint operation at Taksapara Moniram area under Melaghar police station in Sepahijala district. One person has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The operation was jointly carried out by the police personnel of Melaghar police station along with the STF and TSR based on specific intelligence inputs regarding illegal narcotics being stored in the area.

According to sources, Tripura Police’s intelligence wing had received confidential information about the presence of contraband substances at the residence of a youth identified as Basirai Debbarma. Acting on the tip-off, a joint team conducted a sudden raid at his house on Friday.

During the search operation, police recovered several drums filled with dry cannabis from inside the house. Officials stated that the total quantity of seized cannabis was approximately 148 kg, with an estimated market value of around Rs 4 lakh.

The accused, Basirai Debbarma, was taken into custody and later brought to Melaghar Police Station along with the seized contraband for further legal proceedings.

Speaking on the operation, Melaghar police staton Inspector Subir Saha said, “based on secret information, we conducted this special operation in the Taksapara area. Around 148 kg of cannabis was recovered during the raid. Such strict drives against narcotics will continue in the coming days to build a drug-free Tripura.”

Police have registered a specific case against the accused and initiated an investigation into the matter. Local residents have appreciated the active role of the police in curbing drug-related activities in the region.
