Agartala police on Tuesday spoiled inter-state Ganja smuggling bid and arrested a peddler with large quantities of dry Cannabis before the consignment was transported through a long distance train.
Giving details, officer-in-charge (OC) of Amtali police station, Paritosh Das said that during regular Naka checking of police forces from Amtali police station at the Bypass road near Agartala Railway station, police over suspicion detained a youth, who was moving towards the Railway station with two trolley bags.
During the checking of these bags, police recovered a total of 18 kilograms of dry Ganja and arrested that peddler, who hails from Gomati district of the state.
OC said that during preliminary interrogation, the arrested peddler said that he will board a long distance train from Agartala station to deliver the consignment of contraband to other paddlers in Bihar state.
OC Das also said that a specific case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 has been registered and arrested drug peddler will be produced before a local court with police remand appeal on Wednesday for further interrogation.
