Drug smuggler with large quantities of Yaba tablets arrested from a bordering village
As part of the Chief Minister’s call to build a drug-free Tripura, the Tripura Police along with other security forces have been continuously conducting anti-narcotics operations across the state.
In a significant breakthrough, police and BSF achieved major success during a joint operation late Sunday night in the India–Bangladesh border area under Kadamtala police station under North Tripura district.
The incident occurred around midnight on Sunday when BSF jawans of the 97 Battalion noticed a person entering a house belonging to one Taj Uddin at Ichai Par village near Yakub Nagar in Kadamtala police station area with suspected narcotic items.
Acting on the information, a joint team of Kadamtala police and BSF swiftly launched a raid at Taj Uddin’s house. Sensing the presence of security forces, the house owner Taj Uddin managed to flee, but the person carrying large quantities of Yaba tablets, identified as Nazim Uddin, was caught red-handed by the police and BSF.
During a search of the house, a total of 1,929 Yaba tablets were recovered from 10 packets. The estimated black-market value of the seized narcotics is around Rs 20 lakh. The team also seized four mobile phones, Rs 77,910 in Indian currency, and Bangladeshi currency amounting to 1,577 Taka from the spot.
Police said a case has been registered against the arrested person under relevant sections Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and efforts are underway to arrest the absconding accused Taj Uddin.
