Environmental procession on hot and humid weather, kneel down under sun, 8 Teliamura students hospitalized
Within seven days of Bodhjung Girls' School’s tragic incident, again on Thursday eight students of Maiganga Sukanta HS school of Teliamura were hospitalized due to irresponsible and inhuman activities of school teachers.
Sources said that on Thursday the school teachers of Sukanta HS School of Teliamura organized an environment awareness rally in participation of school students amidst scorching heat and humid weather under the banner of the school's eco club.
The school’s eco club in-charge teacher Shyamali Das and Manik Chakraborty with permission of headmistress Sarvani Bhattacharjee organized the environment awareness rally in different thoroughfares of Teliamura at noon amidst scorching heat and humid weather.
After the rally, crossing different roads entered again into school premises, one after one student fell sick. Before this incident, in another inhuman torture allegedly ordered by headmistress and two teachers Ruma Banik and Saini Saha Bhowmik have punishment to about 70 to 80 students studying in class ten and twelve by standing them in open ground under the direct heat of sunlight and forced them to do née down at least 70 to 80 times for their late arrival in school prayer.
As a result, after 30 minutes of their severe punishment, many girl students fell sick and they were shifted to a local hospital after some teachers called the ambulances.
After the report of the incident spread like wildfire, many parents rushed to the school and they shifted the sons and daughters to hospital.
Local sources said that among the sick students, eight of them were admitted to Teliamura Subdivisional hospital and many of them were discharged after primary treatment. But, many of them fell sick after they returned to their homes.
Two admitted students identified as Ritika Das and Koyel Biswas were referred to GB Hospital after their condition deteriorated.
Meanwhile, school headmistress Sarvani Bhattacharjee admitted that she was busy in her office room with other school related activities and was not aware of the punishment given by some teachers to the students of class ten and twelve for their late arrival.
A member of the school management committee speaking with media persons strongly condemned the inhuman act of the school teachers and said that they will conduct an enquiry over the incident and will take next steps for these irresponsible and inhuman attitudes of some teachers.
