Failure to stop infiltration, DG, ADG of BSF removed, Daljit Chawdhary new DG- BSF

Alarmed by continuous infiltration from Bangladesh into Tripura, which is remained unabated and more than 180 Bangladesh nationals and 38 Rohingyas were arrested in Tripura district for their illegal entry into India over last two and a half months, the centre in a significant step has removed the Director General (DG) of BSF and deputy DG with immediate effect.

Official sources said that the Union Home Ministry has removed the Border Security Force (BSF) Director General (DG) Nitin Agrawal and his deputy Special DG (West) Y B Khurania, sending them back to their respective state cadres with immediate effect. Agrawal is a 1989-batch Kerala cadre IPS officer, while Khurania belongs to the 1990-batch of the Odisha cadre.

Agrawal had taken charge as the Border Security Force chief in June last year. Khurania, as the special DG (West), was heading the formation of the force along the Pakistan border.

Separate orders issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) conveyed they were being "prematurely" repatriated with "immediate effect."

The about 2.65-lakh personnel strong BSF guards Indian borders with Pakistan on the west and Bangladesh on the east.

The Centre  on Saturday has appointed the 1990-batch UP cadre IPS officer Daljit Singh Chawdhary as the new chief of the Border Security Force following the premature repatriation of incumbent Nitin Agrawal.

Constant infiltration from the International Border is one of the factors behind the Centre's move. There have been complaints against the BSF chief over critical matters including alleged lack of coordination, media reports quoting sources said.

"Lack of command and control within the force and lack of coordination with other sister agencies led to his repatriation," a senior officer, requesting anonymity.

It may be recalled here that during continuous unrest in bordering Bangladesh, a spurt of infiltration has been reported across Tripura and the security forces including Tripura police and BSF daily arresting Bangladeshi and Rohingyas for their illegal entry into Indian territory.

Though, in view of ongoing unrest in neighbouring Bangladesh, the security forces have strengthened their border surveillance to stop any attempt of infiltration by Bangladeshi anti-social elements, which has no impact in Tripura as influx by Bangladeshi and Rohingyas continues and unabated.

Within the last five days above 60 Bangladesh nationals, Rohingyas including women, transgender and touts, were arrested by the security forces from different parts  of the state and the infiltration from the neighbouring country into Tripura unabated.
