Days after a deadly land dispute in Kailashahar claimed the lives of two brothers, another alleged incident linked to a property dispute has surfaced in Tripura's Unakoti district. A 60-year-old farmer from the Fatikroy police station area was allegedly assaulted over a land-related disagreement and remains hospitalized with serious injuries, while his family has accused police of failing to register a case.

The injured farmer, identified as Sukhlal Deb, a resident of Ward No. 1 under Gokulnagar Gram Panchayat in Fatikroy, is reportedly undergoing treatment at Unakoti District Hospital.

Family members claimed that the incident occurred on the night of June 19 when Sukhlal was returning home from the market.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Sukhlal's son Sujay Deb alleged that a dispute had been ongoing over a narrow earthen road adjacent to their property. He claimed that Mrityunjay Sinha, a former BJP Gram Pradhan of Gokulnagar Gram Panchayat, had been pressuring his father to surrender a portion of land free of cost to widen the road. Sukhlal allegedly refused to part with the land, leading to repeated threats.

According to the family, Mrityunjay Sinha allegedly intercepted Sukhlal while he was returning home and physically assaulted him. The attack reportedly left the farmer with injuries to his chest, abdomen, head and ear.

After somehow reaching home, Sukhlal was first taken to Fatikroy Primary Health Centre, where doctors admitted him. As his condition failed to improve, he was later referred to Unakoti District Hospital in Kailashahar on June 21.

Sujay Deb stated that his father continues to suffer from severe pain in his chest and abdomen and is unable to speak properly or consume solid food. Doctors have reportedly advised a liquid diet during his recovery.

The family further alleged that despite submitting a written complaint at Fatikroy Police Station on June 20, police have neither acknowledged receipt of the complaint nor registered a case. Sujay claimed that when his mother visited the police station on June 22 to inquire about the complaint, police personnel allegedly advised the family to remain silent and settle the matter privately.

The allegations have triggered tension in the locality, with residents questioning the role of law enforcement in handling growing land-related disputes across Unakoti district. Local sources alleged that the accused continues to move freely in the area.

Police officials had not issued any official statement on the allegations at the time of filing this report. The claims made by the victim's family could not be independently verified.
