A resident of Satnala under Kanchanpur police station in Tripura’s North District has levelled serious allegations of harassment and police inaction against the officer-in-charge (OC) of Kanchanpur police station, Srikanta Rudra Pal, and woman head-constable Gayatri Das in connection with the disappearance of his minor daughter.
The father, Ahit Das, has appealed to Chief Minister and Home Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha to intervene, ensure the recovery of his missing daughter and order an impartial inquiry into the allegations against the police personnel.
According to Das, his minor daughter, a school student, went missing on September 11. After failing to trace her, he approached Kanchanpur police station and lodged a complaint, reportedly submitting relevant information and evidence.
However, he alleged that instead of receiving the expected assistance in tracing his daughter, he was subjected to mental and financial harassment while contacting the police station in the hope of finding her.
Das further alleged that when he attempted to submit a detailed complaint containing his version of events and supporting evidence, the officer-in-charge (OC) refused to accept it and prepared a fresh FIR according to his own version. He claimed that he was subsequently pressured into signing the document.
The father also levelled allegations against woman head-constable Gayatri Das, claiming that he was taken to Agartala in a hired vehicle in connection with efforts to trace his daughter and was subjected to harassment during the visit. He further alleged that he was threatened with being sent back after 3 am.
Claiming that the incidents had caused him financial losses and severe mental distress, Das held a press conference at the North District Press Club in Dharmanagar, where he expressed his grievances over the handling of the case by Kanchanpur police station.
The allegations against the police personnel have not been independently verified, and their responses to the charges were not available at the time of filing this report.
The disappearance of a minor is a sensitive matter that requires prompt investigation and appropriate support for the family. The allegations raised by Das have therefore prompted calls for a fair inquiry into the handling of the case.
During the press conference, Das urged Chief Minister and Home Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha to take immediate steps to trace his daughter and initiate an impartial investigation into the alleged conduct of the officer-in-charge and the woman havildar.
With the minor reportedly missing for nearly a month, the family continues to wait for answers. The key questions now are whether the girl can be traced promptly and whether the authorities will examine the allegations against the police personnel and take appropriate action if any wrongdoing is established.
