Fish trader arrested under POCSO Act for raping a minor in Agartala

Agartala city police has arrested accused rapist, a fish trader from Sekharkot area on charges of raping and brutally assaulting a minor girl in West Joynagar area of the city.
The arrest was made late last night from the Sekerkote area following a swift investigation under The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012.
Giving details , OC of West Agartala Women police station , Shiuli Das on Saturday said that a complaint filed by the victim’s family, the minor, who reportedly referred to the accused as “grandfather” was allegedly lured into an empty room in the absence of her parents.
Where, accused fish trader, Shankar Das allegedly before raping her severely beating her and forcefully administering poisonous pesticides. The girl sustained multiple injuries and was found in a critical condition.
Local residents rushed the victim to IGM Hospital, and she was later referred to GB Hospital due to her serious condition. Medical officials confirmed that the minor girl has extensive injury marks and remains under close observation.
Shiuli Das said that a case has been registered under relevant sections POCSO Act and other sections of BNS. She added that in association with police personnel from Amtali police station, the accused was arrested from Sekerkot late last night. He will be produced before a local court with police remand appeal, said Mrs Das and added that the condition of the minor girl is stable now and a team of State Forensic Laboratory (SFL) has also visited the hospital and collected all evidence.
