Flood situation near river Howrah improved, still hundreds in relief camps
The devastating flood situation in adjoining areas of river Howrah and other parts of plain land of the state now improved after stopping incessant rainfall since Friday, but till Saturday hundreds of families are in relief camps.
The fresh flood at the adjoining areas of river Howrah and other parts of the state after heavy rainfall since August 19 under the influence of strengthening of Monsoon in Tripura, rendered thousands people homeless in all low lying areas of river Howrah.
The administration has set up dozens of relief camps in different parts of the Agartala city, where thousands families have been sheltered during devastating floods as Tripura has witnessed such devastating rain and flood after many decades and till today rendered thousands people homeless in all low lying areas of river Howrah.
Though since Friday morning flood water started receding from river Howrah, still hundreds of victim families are in different relief camps.
Responding to the situation the state government at once pressed into service, NDRF, SDRF, Fire Service, TSR jawans and Assam Rifles personnel for relief and rescue operations.
The fresh flood since August 19 led to surging of water all over the plain land areas in and around catchment areas of river Howrah and there was one death in Kathakhal area reported so far, while the state has so far reported a total of 26 deaths in the past four days for flood.
The state government ensures adequate supply of food materials, drinking water, health and sanitation measures in all relief camps, but the condition of many relief camps in and around river Howrah is in very pathetic and unhygienic conditions.
However, on Saturday afternoon river Howrah is flowing below danger level and major places in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) areas near Howrah have been inundated with areas like Pratapgarh, Srilankabasti, Banamalipur, Shibnagar, Rishi Colony, Aralia and Chandrapur being severely affected.
While, official sources said that the situation is improving in all adjoining areas of river Howrah, no fresh rain reported after Friday afternoon and there is no need to panic.
