Four smugglers arrested with Eskuf syrups
Based on secret information, police on Sunday morning arrested four smugglers and recovered large quantities of Codeine Phosphate cough syrup ‘Eskuf’ from the outside of Agartala railway station.
Police sources said that the officer-in-charge (OC) of AD Nagar police station has specific information of transportation of banned cough syrup by a group of smugglers travelling to a passenger rail.
Based on the information, a police team laid a trap outside of Agartala railway station for a passenger auto-rickshaw. At about 6.30 AM, a passenger express train arrived at the station, three persons boarded in an auto-rickshaw.
Police chased the suspected auto-rickshaw and managed to detain the auto and in the course of search operation, they recovered large quantities of Codeine Phosphate cough syrup ‘Eskuf’ from three persons. Police arrested three suspected smugglers identified as Ram Paresh Sahu and Anil Kumar, coming from Hajipur of Bihar state, another local smuggler identified as Birender Roy of Khajurbagan area and their auto-rickshaw driver Rajesh Saha.
Police added that seized Codeine Phosphate cough syrup ‘Eskuf’ , worth Rs. 4.5 lakh and police registering a specific case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, started investigation to find out the routes of smuggling.
