In another successful operation, Tripura police on Saturday managed to seize large quantities of dry Cannabis (Ganja) from a lorry at the Betbagan Naka (check-post) point of Ambassa under Dhalai district.

Police sources said that on Saturday, acting on specific intelligence inputs, a police team led by Ambassa Police Station’s Second Officer-in-Charge (OC) Joy Thapa conducted a Naka (check-post) operation at Betbagan in Ambassa. During the operation, the police intercepted a goods carrying vehicle bearing registration number TR-01-AP-1631.

As the vehicle reached the Naka point, police personnel began a search. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused driver managed to flee from the spot. During the search, the police recovered 79 packets of dry Ganja from the vehicle. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth around Rs 15 lakh in the illegal market.

Speaking with media persons, Second OC Joy Thapa said that the police had prior information about the transportation of narcotic substances in the vehicle. Acting on the tip-off, the vehicle was searched and 79 packets of Ganja were recovered.

However, the driver escaped, and an investigation has been launched to trace and arrest him.
