Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday said that it is very important to ensure the active participation of youth in sports to keep them physically and mentally healthy.

He said that, for this purpose, the state government is continuously working by adopting various plans to modernize and improve the state's sports infrastructure.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said this while inaugurating a rally organized on the occasion of Olympic Day celebrations from the premises of Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan on Tuesday.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the state government is committed to providing improved infrastructure for the state's athletes.

“In the past, it has been seen that various sports committees in the state did not play the right role in the development of the state's sports infrastructure. Currently, sports infrastructure is being developed in every district and subdivision of the state. Various initiatives are being taken to help the children of the state progress in sports,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that, in the past, talented athletes of the state were not given proper recognition.

“The current state government has named indoor stadiums, tracks, galleries, etc., after former talented athletes of the state at various places across the state. The Indian Olympic Association has recently recognized that the state's Olympic Association is functioning properly,” he added.

The event was attended by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar, MLA Antara Sarkar Deb, Assam MLA Dr. Rajdeep Roy, Sports Department Secretary Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, Director L. Darlong, Tripura Olympic Association Chairman Ratan Saha, Secretary Sujit Roy, and others.

The Chief Minister and other guests participated in the rally organized on the occasion of Olympic Day.
