In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband at Chandrai Para village near Ambassa Railway station of Dhalai district on Thursday evening.
Police sources said that the accused, identified as Gopal Paul, allegedly attacked his wife Shilpi Paul (40) disputing petty family issues and severely beaten her to death.
After the incident was reported police rushed to the spot and recovered the body of Shilpi Paul and shifted it to Ambassa hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police sources added that Gopal Paul, a habitual drunker often tortured his wife and Thursday evening, again he returned back to his house at Chandrai Para village in intoxicated condition and disputing petty family issues, he started beating his wife till her death.
When their only 17-years old son entered their house, he noticed the lifeless body of her mother lying beneath their bed. Amidst hue and cry, neighbours rushed to the spot and they informed the police of the incident.
Preliminary investigations suggest that prolonged family discord may have led to the alleged murder, though the exact motive is yet to be established.
Local villagers alleged that Shilpi had been subjected to repeated physical and mental abuse by her husband and police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the incident and search operation to arrest the accused husband.
