Husband gets life term for killing wife
A local court of Gomati district on Thursday pronounced life imprisonment to a husband for killing his wife with sharp weapons.
Giving details of the judgement, Public Prosecutor (PP) of Gomati district Sakti Pada Chakraborty said that accused Rupak Ghosh alias Rupan (36) of Tepania under RK Pur police station of the state had married Jharna Dey (Ghosh) 12 years ago and since then, the family disputes had been continuing in their marriage life and on the ill-fated day of October 22, 2020, accused Rupak Ghosh after hot altercation with his wife, hacked to death her by sharp weapons.
After the tragic incident, a specific FIR was lodged at RK Pur police station and police thoroughly investigated the case and established necessary linkages with the help of a Forensic laboratory and successfully gathered scientific evidence. Later, police submitted the charge-sheet against accused Rupak Ghosh under section 498(A) , 302 and 34 of IPC. After two years of trial and recording the statements of all witnesses, the Additional District and Session Judge of Gomati district on Thursday pronounced him life imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 25,000. The Court also punished him with three years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5000 under section 498(A) of IPC.
