A district court in Khowai on Wednesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment till death for the brutal murder of his wife in a case that took place two years ago.
According to Government Advocate Bikash Deb, the incident occurred on the night of June 17, 2024, when Parimal Jera, a resident of a remote village in Khowai district, allegedly hacked his wife, Swapna Jera, to death following a domestic dispute while under the influence of alcohol.
After the crime was reported, police, assisted by local villagers, launched a search operation and arrested the accused from a nearby forest the following day.
The investigation was conducted by Women Sub-Inspector (SI) Sampa Das of Khowai Women police station, who later filed the charge sheet before the Khowai court. During the trial, the prosecution examined 15 witnesses, whose testimonies established the accused's involvement in the murder.
Delivering the verdict on Wednesday, Additional District and Sessions Judge Sharmistha Mukherjee found Parimal Jera guilty of murdering his wife and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for life till death.
