In a major drug bust Tripura police seizes dry cannabis worth Rs 2.25 crore
In another successful operation and in a major drug bust, the Unakoti district police of Tripura on Sunday seized a big consignment of dry Cannabis from a lorry worth of Rs. 2.25 crore.
Giving details of the operation SP(Unakoti) Kanta Jahangir said that the SDPO(Kumarghat) Kamal Debbarma has specific information over transportation of a big consignment of dry Ganja through National Highway-8 and based on the information, a team of police personnel led by SDPO and OC of Kumarghat police station Shankar Saha laid a trap at a Naka point.
Acting on a specific input, they established a checkpoint and began inspecting vehicles. Eventually, their attention turned to a truck with the registration number AS-01MC0388, suspiciously parked near the road in the Betcherra area.
Seeing the police personnel checking vehicles, the driver and co-driver of the truck escaped from the spot and the police team started checking the vehicle. During a search of that truck, police recovered 60 big packets of dry Cannabis with 1500 kilograms, worth Rs. 2.25 crore, said Jahangir.
She said that police have registered a specific case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 and started an investigation to arrest the escaped driver and to get details of the big consignment.
