Intermittent rain caused massive suffering for Agartala city dwellers
As intermittent pre-Monsoon rainfalls struck Tripura early Tuesday morning, all low-lying areas of Agartala flooded with rain water and disturbed normal life on Wednesday evening with few spells of rain.
During the heavy downpour on Wednesday evening only for 25 to 30 minutes major parts of the Agartala city are marooned and all the low-lying areas of Agartala have been partially and fully submerged with rain water and traffic movements hit road-blocks during the busy evening hours.
Ironically, all the measures adopted by Agartala Smart City Mission to keep city dwellers away from flood like situation, the downpour for few minutes forced people to stranded in massive traffic jams in busiest parts of the city like Paradise Chowmuhani, IGM Chowmuhani, Agartala city centre, Melarmath, Orient Chowmuhani, parts of Akhaura road etc and stalled vehicular movements.
Despite installation of many flood water pumping machines, the unseasonal construction works of covered drains in almost major parts of the city caused flooded streets and massive traffic jams.
Sources said that only a few flood water pump machines were kept in operation during heavy rainfall on Wednesday evening and many were not functional due to construction works of covered drains.
Sources added that AMC failed to perform its duties by putting in place pumps for removing rain water and as a result of the failure major parts of the city is under rain water.
The worst is, massive traffic jams have blockaded every corner of Agartala city due to submerged roads with rain water on Wednesday evening, pathetic conditions of sewerage systems of Agartala and for special negligence of traffic police and their mismanagement.
After 8.30 PM on Wednesday, flood water started receding from the city as functional pumps of AMC started working in full force.
