Jiten urges govt to ensure security of opposition supporters
Opposition CPI(M) strongly criticized attacks on their party supporter houses after the January 29 mass rally in Agartala and claimed that ruling party workers have intensified their violent attacks due to their desperation.
On Saturday night some unknown miscreants had torched the house of one CPI(M) supporter Narayan Debnath at Gurkhabasti area under Barjala assembly constituency and burnt to ashes all his household properties.
On Sunday morning Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jitendra Chaudhury along with local MLA Sudip Sarkar visited the incident spot and spoke to the media.
Chaudhury said that after the last assembly elections, BJP-backed miscreants have been attacking the house of Narayan Debnath, a resident of Gurkhabasti in the Barjala assembly constituency. Last night, BJP miscreants set his house on fire. His only fault was that he worked for the CPI(M) party, who is a former army personnel.
Previously, his house had been set on fire before the 2023 assembly elections. At that time, he had informed the country's Prime Minister and the highest-ranking official (Chief of Army) in his office about the incident. In response, a letter was sent from the authorities to the then Director General of Police (DGP) of the state, instructing a proper investigation into the incident and ensuring that the culprits were brought under the law, said Chaudhury.
But, the state police administration did nothing to ensure the safety and security of Narayan Debnath and his family members.
“Now, as the state's political environment is starting to become favorable for CPI(M), miscreants once again set fire to his house last night to spread fear among the people and completely burnt down his entire house, “ said Chaudhury and alleged a rule of terror going on across the state and police administration become silent spectators.
He urged the state administration to ensure security of opposition supporters and should arrest all miscreants responsible for such attacks on opposition supporter houses.
