In a major crackdown on smuggling activities, PR Bari police station of South Tripura district on Wednesday carried out three consecutive operations from the early hours, resulting in the seizure of over 74 kilograms of dry Cannabis (Ganja) and 80 bundles of cloth. Two vehicles and an e-rickshaw were also seized, while two drug peddlers, were arrested in connection with the narcotics haul.

Police sources said that the first operation  was conducted at  Rangamura in the early hours of Wednesday. Acting on specific intelligence, a police team led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) of RP Bari police station Ratan Rabi Das, along with Sub-Inspectors Prasenjit Gope and Niran Debbarma, intercepted two Bolero vehicles. During the search, police recovered 80 bundles of cloth from the vehicles. As the drivers failed to produce any valid documents regarding the consignment, the goods were seized under Section 106 of the BNSS on suspicion of smuggling.

 

In the second operation at Radhanagar No. 2 Tilla,  police in coordination with the District Mobile Forensic Team, intercepted an e-rickshaw. A thorough search led to the recovery of 40.420 kilograms of dry Ganja. Police arrested Tridip Saha of Dimatali  and Sankar Sutradhar  in connection with the case. A case has been registered under the provisions of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.

The third raid was conducted near the Indo-Bangladesh border fencing in Rajnagar Muslim Para. During the operation, police recovered 34 kilograms of Ganja packed in 18 packets concealed inside two plastic sacks abandoned at the location. The seized contraband included sixteen packets weighing 2 kilograms each and two packets weighing 1 kilogram each. Since no claimant was found, the narcotics were seized and efforts are underway to identify those responsible.

Speaking to the media, police said that , “Acting on confidential information, we carried out raids at three different locations in a single night. The cloth consignment lacked valid documentation, while two individuals have been arrested in connection with the ganja seizure. The investigation is continuing, and our operations against smuggling will remain ongoing.”

The seizure of more than 74 kilograms of ganja and 80 bundles of cloth in a single night has been hailed as a significant achievement for PR Bari Police. Local residents have praised the police for their proactive efforts to curb smuggling and illegal cross-border activities in the sensitive border region.
