LF delegation met ADGP, demands security to reopen closed party offices
Demanding protection to exercise their democratic rights of political parties, the opposition Left Front on Friday met the Additional Director General of police and submitted a memorandum for reopening of their closed and attacked party offices.
After their deputation with ADGP, Anurag Dhankar at police headquarters on Friday morning, Tripura Left Front convener and veteran leader Manik Dey along with their ally leaders addressing a press conference at CPI(M) headquarters on Friday afternoon said that when the entire nation passing through a critical situation after dastardly killing of the 26 tourists at Pahalgam and all sensible people deserve to be rational to keep internal situation calm and quiet and strengthening the unity and integrity by avoiding political differences, but most unfortunately in Tripura, the ruling party has been trying to capitalize this issue in communal line incite the people against a particular religion.
Dey highlighted several recent attacks on their party offices on the very narrow excuse that Muslim people often visit these party offices said that in the daylight their Dharmanagar party office was razed on April 25 and on the same day Dukli sub divisional party office was also attacked.
On April 29th, a bike gang of the ruling party attacked party leaders at at Santirbazar and wounded several party supporters and on the same day Mandwai party office torched in front of police forces, said Dey and added that party office Sonaicherri, Sabroom under South Tripura was also set on fire on April 21 and on April 12 last., some elements set up an idol of Lord Ram on the open platform at Chandipur square of Kailashahar, where the statue of former deputy chief minister, Baidhyanath Majumder’s statue was removed and destroyed in 2018.
Dey alleged that ‘these incidents abetting the attitude of a section of police towards the criminal activities of the ruling BJP followers in their drive to suppress opposition parties and creates a major threat for the general law and order situation of the state.’
“The indifferent attitude of a section of police towards the criminal only because they belong to ruling party followers and they are responsible for tarnishing the reputation of entire police forces,” said Dey.
He said that the present juncture, Tripura Left Front committee urges the police administration to make the police act independently, impartially and treat criminals as nothing but ‘criminals’ ignoring whichever party they belong.
They also urged the ADGP to preserve the democratic rights and environment in the state to arrest all criminals involved in the attacks on their party workers and party offices. The LF committee also requested the ADGP to arrange security to open their closed party offices and proper security to those Left party offices which are functioning at present.
