Major Cannabis plants destruction drive by police in Sepahijala district, 12 lakh saplings destroyed
Tripura police Tuesday through mega Cannabis (Ganja) plantation drive conducted different interior and bordering parts of Sepahijala district have destroyed about 12 lakh of Ganja saplings including matured trees.
Giving details of the major anti-drug operation, SP(Sepahijala), Bijoy Debbarma said that the large-scale operation to eradicate cannabis cultivation was successfully conducted on Tuesday from morning 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM across multiple locations in the district.
This drive was jointly carried out by the District Police, TSR jawans from 1st , 7th, 11th and 14th battalions, CRP, Women TSR, district civil administration, and the personnel from Forest Department, said Debbarma.
He added that based on credible intelligence gathered by the State Police, the operation targeted in the forest areas of Sutarmura, Toktumadum, Chitta Rambari, Ukyamura, Tulamura Kamalnagar, and Ghatigar under the jurisdiction of Bishramganj, Bishalghar, Kalamchowra, Sonamura, and Melagarh police stations.
During the drive, where about 500 security forces were deployed for destruction of illegal Ganja plantations spreads in 120 plots, approximately 12 lakh semi-mature cannabis plants were destroyed, which has estimated to be worth around Rs 50 crore, marking a significant blow to illegal drug cultivation and trafficking in the region, said SP Bijoy Debbarma.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha through his social media appreciated efforts of state police and said that “in a major drive against the illegal cultivation of ganja (marijuana), approximately 12 lakh saplings were destroyed in a joint operation. The operation was conducted by the CRPF, TSR, Forest Department, and the District Police Administration, under the leadership of Bijoy Debbarma, SP, Sepahijala.Our commitment to the fight against drugs remains steadfast.”
