Major crackdown against Ganja plantations: Villagers’ attack forces, fired tear gas cells, OC injured

In a major crackdown against Ganja (Cannabis) plantation in vast interior areas of Sepahijala district spreading acres of land, a group of villagers attacked on security forces and police has to burst tear gas cells to disperse mob in Bangshibari village under Bishalgarh police station.
As a result, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Bishalgarh police station suffered injuries and narrowly escaped from life during indiscriminate attack by villagers, but alert forces continued their operation and around 86, 000 Ganja plants were also destroyed by them from acres of land.
This significant action is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to combat narcotics and drug smuggling. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha praised the operation, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to achieving a “Nasha Mukht Tripura” (Drug-Free Tripura).
He emphasized the importance of collective efforts to tackle the drug menace, urging citizens to join in creating a safer, healthier society. The state government continues to take strong measures to ensure a drug-free environment and combat illegal drug activities in Tripura.
While, giving details of the operation, OC of Bishalgarh police station, Sanjit Sen said that based secret information over Ganja plantation in government lands in the interior areas of Bangshibari village, on Sunday morning police along with a large force of CRPF and TSR raided at that spot and launched their crackdown. But , all of sudden a large group of villagers from a long distance started stone pelting, targeting the forces and they also started abusing the security forces.
At a time, police forces tried to ease the situation, but villagers continued their attacks and police fired a few tear gas cells to disperse them. During stone pelting, OC Sanjit Sen suffered injuries and narrowly escaped from life.
Police sources added that during the raid, a total of 86,000 Ganja plants were destroyed and forces will continue their operation in all nearby areas to destroy growing Ganja plantations.
