Major fire incident averted in an OT of GB Hospital, huge losses
A major fire incident averted due to timely intervention of authorities and firefighters after fire from an electric short-circuit erupted in the major operation theatre (OT) of gynecology at GB Hospital on Wednesday afternoon.
The medical superintendent of GB Hospital Dr Shankar Chakraborty said that on Wednesday afternoon no medical staff or no patient was inside the major OT of the gynecology department and all of sudden, the staff of the hospital noticed huge smoke and fire inside the OT.
They immediately informed the firefighters and fire service from Kunjaban fire station immediately rushed to the spot and douse the fire erupted from air-condition (AC) machine inside the OT, said Dr Chakraborty and added that large number of technical apparatus of OT has been damaged, fortunately no person was present inside the OT during the incident.
He said that immediately, the gynecology OT of the hospital shifted surgery OT room for emergency purpose.
While, a firefighter said that many electronic macinaries and surgical equipment were completely destroyed due to the fire incident , which has mainly erupted from the electric short-circuit from AC.
