A middle aged man was brutally hacked to death inside his residence in Kathalia Bhadrabari area under Jatrapur police station of Sepahijala district of Tripura, triggering panic in the locality.
Police sources said that the victim, identified as Uttam Namo, was allegedly attacked with sharp weapons and hacked repeatedly by unidentified assailants and after committing the crime, the attackers reportedly locked the house from the outside before fleeing the scene. But, mysteriously, after the brutal murder, the younger son of the deceased man, Chayan Namo, was missing from their house.
Police received information about the incident at around 9:00 am on Tuesday. A team from Jatrapur police station immediately rushed to the spot and launched an investigation.
The deceased is survived by his two sons—Utpal Namo (25) and Chayan Namo (22). Police are also examining their whereabouts at the time of the incident, along with other aspects that may be relevant to the investigation.
Investigators are working to determine the motive behind the murder and identify those responsible. The shocking killing has created widespread concern in the area. Police said the exact circumstances surrounding the murder will be known after the investigation is completed.
OC of the Jatrapur police station, Parthanath Bhowmik said that the deceased might have been murdered in between 10 PM to Tuesday early morning and they have collected all circumstantial evidence from the crime scene with the help of a forensic team.
He said that based on the statement of the other inmates of the house and neighbours, the police team noticed that after the brutal crime, the younger son of the deceased man, Chayan Namo was missing.
The OC added that they initiated an investigation and found out the culprit behind the murder of Uttam Namo and police have also launched a manhunt to trace the escaped younger son of the deceased man.
