Manipur police rescues kidnapped student, arrested captors with arms

Imphal: Manipur Police on Saturday successfully rescued a 22 year old college going student just after hours of receiving a complaint from a house where he was held captive for ransom.
According to police, the 22 year old boy identified as Laishram Chinglen Singh was reported kidnapped from DM College of Science’s New Boys Hostel in Imphal on Friday, December 8 at around 1:30 pm. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakhs from the parents of the boy for his safe release, and further threatened that failure to comply would result in their son being returned as a dead body.
On receipt of complaint from the family on early Saturday morning, Imphal West District Police immediately activated a special team and raids were conducted at different places and at around 2 am, a team from the Imphal West District Police carried out a raid at Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai, under the jurisdiction of Wangoi Police Station. During the raid, the missing student was found and rescued from a house belonging to one 63 year old Asem Chaoba. The police also arrested four suspected kidnappers from the house, with another four suspected kidnappers were also arrested from nearby in two vehicles along with arms.
From preliminary enquiry, it is revealed that the kidnappers belong to banned KCP (PWG) group and they are working under one Lamyanba Khuman. The seized arms and ammunition and other items include one Ghatak rifle along with one magazine including 10 live rounds (7.62 mm), one AK-47 rifle with one magazine including 6 live rounds (7.62 mm), one point 32 pistol with one magazine including 6-live rounds, thirteen mobile handsets, one Katana(Samurai) sword, one Honda Civic car red in colour and one Swift car white in colour. Police have handed the boy to his family and investigation has started against the suspected kidnappers.
