Massive Ganja destruction drive continues across Sepahijala district, one lakh plants destroyed on Monday
In an effort to destruction of cannabis cultivation at its zero level in different parts of the state, the Sepahijala district police, along with other security forces in continuation of its destruction drive have intensified their operations over the past fortnight; destroy lakhs of Ganja plants from hundreds of acres of forest land.
On Monday, in two locations of Sepahijala district , specially under Jatrapur police station personnel from various forces carried out a massive operation to destroy nearly 1,00,000 cannabis plants across 21 plots.
The operation was led senior police officials with additional forces from BSF and TSR launched their Ganja plants destruction drive in remote Jagat Rampur ADC Village area in the forest land , where they destroyed 11 plots of cannabis plants.
Moreover, most of the mature plants were cut down, collected in one place, and set on fire using kerosene. Some locals observed this from a distance. The operation began at 7 AM and continued till afternoon.
Afterward, the team moved back towards the border village of Kali Krishnanagar in the Jatrapur police station area, traveling through mountain roads where some local people witnessed their movements. Eventually, they reached the Kali Krishnanagar jungle, where they systematically destroyed 10 small and medium-sized cannabis plots.
This marked the 12th operation conducted by Jatrapur police station in an effort to eradicate cannabis plantations, though, there were no significant obstacles or disruptions during the operation.
While the team was systematically destroying the plants, some cultivators pleaded with the police to spare their crops. A few claimed they had planted cannabis to arrange money for their daughters’ marriages, while others said their families would be left destitute. However, the police did not entertain any requests and continued the operation without interruption.
Senior police official stated that future operations will continue till complete destruction of all illegal cannabis plants.
Police stated that, lured by the promise of quick and high profits, many farmers had become increasingly involved in illegal cannabis cultivation. However, the administration shattered those hopes through a decisive and coordinated crackdown.
Police reiterated that such drives would continue in the coming days to completely eliminate illegal cannabis cultivation in the district.
