A youth allegedly fled the state after allegedly establishing a relationship with a minor girl and making her pregnant in an incident reported from Putia Gram Panchayat area under Kalamchowra police station in Sonamura subdivision.

The mother of the 13-year-old victim, a Class VII student, lodged a written complaint at Kalamchowra police station of Sepahijala district on Thursday, demanding a fair investigation and justice. The minor girl is reportedly suffering from some health complications related to menstruation.

According to the victim’s mother, the family’s financial condition is poor, and both she and her husband work as daily wage labourers, leaving their home during the day. Taking advantage of their absence, the accused youth, identified as Subhan Miah, allegedly used to visit their house on various pretexts, including fetching drinking water.

She alleged that the accused lured her daughter into a false romantic relationship and took her to a nearby forest area, where he allegedly established physical relations with her multiple times.

The family reportedly noticed physical changes in the girl after some time and became suspicious. The matter came to light when the minor was found to be around two months pregnant.

The victim’s family alleged that when they informed the accused youth’s family about the incident, they were threatened with dire consequences, including a threat to kill the girl. Due to fear for their safety, the family initially kept silent.

Later, the elder brother of the accused allegedly offered Rs 5,000 and advised the family to take the minor to Bangladesh for an abortion. Unable to find any other option and fearing social stigma, the distressed family reportedly agreed to the suggestion. However, by then, the pregnancy had reached around six months, and doctors in Bangladesh allegedly refused to terminate it at that stage.

With the help of local Panchayat members, the victim’s mother finally approached the police and filed a complaint against the accused.

Sources said that Subhan Miah has reportedly fled to Chennai. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalamchowra police station Himadri Sarkar said that a case has been registered under relevant sections, including provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and an investigation has been initiated.
