The newly inaugurated Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Agartala Civil Hospital has been witnessing a steady increase in the number of patients seeking medical care.
On Thursday (July 23, 2026), a large number of people visited the hospital and availed themselves of its healthcare services.
The hospital, located near Jackson Gate area in Agartala, was inaugurated on July 12, 2026 last, as part of the Tripura government’s initiative to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and provide modern, accessible, and affordable medical services to people across the state. The initiative has been undertaken under the guidance of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.
To enhance public convenience, the hospital is currently operating its Outpatient Department (OPD) in two shifts. Patient registration is available from 9 AM to 12 PM and again from 5 PM to 7 PM, after which doctors continue consulting all registered patients until examinations are completed.
Among the patients who visited the hospital today was Tapan Kumar Ghosh, a resident of Kashipur and a diabetic patient. He first visited the hospital on July 14, when blood tests revealed significantly elevated blood sugar levels. After undergoing a follow-up blood test on July 20, he returned on Thursday for consultation with Dr Uttam Kumar Barman of the General Medicine department. Following an assessment of his condition, the doctor prescribed the necessary medication. Ghosh expressed satisfaction with the quality of treatment and praised the hospital’s management and cleanliness.
Another patient, Sabita Paul Bhowmik, a retired professor, also visited the General Medicine department. She appreciated the hospital’s organized patient care system, describing it as comparable to that of a private healthcare institution. According to her, the process began with recording her weight, height, and blood pressure before she was systematically referred to the physician. She was later directed to Room No. 102 for blood tests. She also commended the good behaviour of the hospital staff and the overall efficiency of the services.
Sishir Chakraborty, another patient who sought consultation at the General Medicine department, also expressed satisfaction with the services. After consulting the doctor, he was advised to undergo blood tests and a few additional investigations. He praised the hospital’s clean environment, efficient healthcare services, and the professional and friendly attitude of the staff. He further expressed hope that the hospital’s services would continue to improve and expand in the future.
