Newborn died after 15 minutes of birth at IGM Hospital for alleged ‘medical negligence’
In another incident of gross medical negligence, a newly born girl child died after 15 minutes of her berth at IGB Hospital in Agartala on Wednesday morning.
After the death of the newborn child, the family members and other relatives staged a protest in front of the hospital and demanded Chief Minister’s intervention to protect the poor people of the state from medical negligence by a section of arrogant doctors and nurses.
Sources said that one young lady Surashri Sarkar Saha of Moloynagar Saha Para under Srinagar police station was admitted to IGB Hospital’s maternity ward on Tuesday evening with heavy pregnancy pain.
Amidst suffering of heavy pain and agony, her husband Ajoy Saha and other relatives requested on duty doctors to complete her delivery with Cesarean delivery (C-section) to protect both mother and her child. But, on-duty doctors refused them and insulted the patient party.
By the meantime, Surashri with heavy pain became faint on Tuesday night with =out getting any medical assistance and on Wednesday morning, after repeated request, on-duty doctors posted to the maternity ward, finally ready to perform Cesarean delivery on Wednesday morning.
Surashri delivered a healthy baby girl, but within 15 minutes of her berth, the infant died due to infection.
The father of dead infant, Ajoy Saha alleged that doctors can save his daughter, if they performed timely Cesarean delivery on Tuesday morning and his new born daughter died only after a night long forceful wait by arrogant doctors. He also alleged that he lost his newborn child only for medical negligence and sought the immediate intervention of Health Minister cum Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha to initiate proper enquiry to punish accused doctors.
The relatives of the dead baby girl also staged a protest in front of the hospital and demanded stringent punishment for the accused doctors.
