National Law University, Tripura (NLU Tripura), in collaboration with the Department of Rural Development (Panchayat), of Tripura government, organised a workshop on “Final Evaluation of the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) 2026–2027” on 13 August 2026 at the State Panchayat Resource Centre, A.D. Nagar, Agartala. This workshop is part of ongoing project “Handholding Support to Gram Panchayats (GPs) and Village Committees (VCs) in Tripura for Preparation of Theme-based GPDP.” The inaugural session was addressed by Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor, NLU Tripura, and Dr. Anurag Sen, Joint Director, Department of RD (Panchayat), Government of Tripura.
The technical sessions focused on the final evaluation of draft GPDPs prepared for 713 Gram Panchayats (GPs) and Village Committees (VCs) across five districts—Dhalai, Unakoti, North Tripura, Khowai, and South Tripura. Project teams reviewed the plans, identified gaps, and provided recommendations for their improvement and effective implementation. This marked an important stage in the second phase of NLU Tripura’s GPDP initiative, which involved extensive field visits and workshops at R.D. Blocks, GPs and VCs to ensure that the plans are participatory, need-based, comprehensive, and aligned with local developmental priorities.
Since signing an MoU with the Department of RD (Panchayat), Government of Tripura, in 2024, NLU Tripura has been providing technical and academic support for the preparation of GPDPs, working closely with GPs and VCs to strengthen grassroots planning and local governance. Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor, NLU Tripura, expressed gratitude to the Government of Tripura for entrusting the University with this responsibility and appreciated the collaborative efforts of the Department of RD (Panchayat), State Panchayat Resource Centre, district teams, faculty mentors, and project staff in advancing the initiative.
The programme was attended by more than 600 representatives and officials associated with GPs and VCs from the five districts, faculty members of the State Panchayat Resource Centre, NLU Tripura faculty mentors, and members of the project team. The final evaluation is expected to contribute towards further strengthening the draft plans and facilitating their effective implementation at the grassroots level.
