The National Law University, Tripura (NLU Tripura) and its Pro Bono Club launched its flagship initiative “Project Samvidhan Gram” at the Narsingarh Panchayat Office on September 28, 2026, with the objective of taking constitutional education beyond classrooms and creating awareness among citizens about their fundamental rights, duties and access to legal aid.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor of NLU Tripura, highlighted the importance of constitutional literacy at the grassroots level. He encouraged active participation from students and stressed the need for maintaining continuous communication with community members so that they can approach the university whenever legal or constitutional assistance is required.
Dr Jayanta Dhar, Registrar (I/C), NLU Tripura, underscored the role of the Pro Bono Club in connecting villagers with concerned authorities and encouraging them to remain aware of their rights and available legal support mechanisms.
Narsingarh Gram Pradhan Biplup Dev also addressed the gathering and emphasised the importance of creating awareness about citizens’ rights and duties. He appreciated the initiative aimed at strengthening constitutional understanding among villagers.
During the programme, student members of the Pro Bono Club explained various Fundamental Rights and discussed how these rights can be understood and implemented in the daily lives of people. The session focused on bridging the gap between constitutional provisions and their practical application at the community level.
Through Project Samvidhan Gram, NLU Tripura aims to build constitutionally aware villages where citizens understand not only their rights but also their responsibilities as members of a democratic society.
“A constitutionally literate village is a community that knows its rights, understands its duties, and knows where to seek justice,” the university stated.
As part of the initiative, NLU Tripura also distributed booklets in the local language containing information on Fundamental Rights among the villagers.
