National Law University, Tripura under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Y.P. Singh, organized a legal awareness program at Bodhjung Higher Secondary School, Agartala for the students of class 10 & 12.
The session focused on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the diverse career opportunities available in the field of law. Prof. Singh in his address emphasized the importance of fundamental rights and duties, urging students to embrace their responsibilities as informed and active citizens of India. He highlighted the growing relevance of legal education and encouraged the youth of Tripura to consider law as a rewarding career. “Lawyers are among the highest taxpayers in the country and play a pivotal role in societal development,” he stated. With the recent establishment of NLU Tripura as a premier legal institution in India, Prof. Singh invited aspiring students to seize the opportunity for quality legal education within their home state. He also underlined the need for greater awareness among teenagers on legal and health-related issues, setting the tone for the student-led presentations that followed.
Students from the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) 2nd Semester delivered engaging and informative presentations on the POCSO and NDPS Acts. They discussed the challenges faced by child victims of sexual offences, many of whom are unaware of their legal rights or lack the confidence to speak out. The session on the NDPS Act addressed the increasing prevalence of substance abuse among teenagers in Tripura, giving emphasis on the critical need for awareness and prevention. The sessions were well-received, with interactive discussions between speakers and the audience. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session. The event was part of NLUT’s School Connect Program under the theme, “Let us work together for the children of Tripura.” The initiative was well-supported by Bodhjung H.S.
