One month traffic special drive: 60% reduction in road accident deaths
Following announcement by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha over special drives to prevent road traffic deaths, injuries and accidents, the Tripura police has started its special drive on a mission mode to control road accidents since August 19th last.
The state police through a press statement said that after scientific assessment of accident black spots, accident prone zones and timings when most accidents occur on national highways and state highways, the output and impact on the drive was reviewed on completion of one month.
Police said that following the new and first time multi-dimensional approach taken by the police of enforcement, placement of NAKAs, increased highway patrol and public awareness campaigns etc. Various other line departments were also taken on board and coordinated effort was made on the ground.
After examination and comparisons of monthly average figures of the last three and half years of road traffic accidents with the period of special drive conducted from August 19, 2023 to September 18, 2023, there is a 60% reduction in road accident deaths and injuries have also reduced by 50%, said police.
The statement added that total Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) cases have also come down by around 50% despite an increase of vehicles by over 20% during the last three and half years in the state.
These statistics strongly indicate that it is imperative for the road users to strictly follow traffic rules and guidelines and drive responsibly to ensure saving of lives and reducing injuries, said police and appeals to the people to help the state police to save lives.
