Over 150 master trainers continue 5-day middle-level residential training to strengthen education in Tripura

Tripura has entered the second phase of Teachers Capacity Building programme under the Teacher Professional Development (TPD) initiative of TRESP, with technical support from the Transform Trust JV People For Action. This five-day residential programme, which began this week in Agartala, marks another significant step in the state’s commitment towards equitable quality education opportunities for its students.
More than 150 Master Trainers, carefully selected for their subject specialization, extensive teaching experience and previous experience of working as teachers’ trainers, are undergoing training in Mathematics, Science, English, and Social Science. Post completing their 24 plus hours hands on experiential TPD journey, these trainers will cascade their learning to thousands of teachers across districts over the coming few months, ensuring universal coverage of teachers teaching above said subjects in all districts.
The programme is being organized by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) in collaboration with the Directorate of Secondary Education - DoSE and The Transform Trust. Sessions are facilitated by the Key Resource Persons (KRPs) of national repute, and state level education institutions such as Institute of Advanced Studies in Education - IASE.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Director of SCERT, Ms. Lalnunnemi Darlong, said, “Aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, this five-day Master Trainer programme for middle-stage teachers aims to strengthen school education in Tripura by building a learning ecosystem rooted in Indian values and ready for global challenges.”
Mr. N.C. Sharma, Director of Secondary Education, highlighted the vital role of Master Trainers: “You remain the most crucial link in this journey. As leaders in your respective fields, it is your responsibility to extend this learning to your fellow teachers. The real impact of this event will be seen when the knowledge gained here is reflected in classrooms and in students’ learning.”
In her address, Ms. Mukta Narain Thind, Managing Director of The Transform Trust, reminded participants that beyond data points such as PGI, NAS, and SLAS, it is teachers who shape learning environments. She urged them to “imagine the 10-year journey with your students; one that can transform outcomes and nurture 21stcentury skills. Stay connected through peer-learning networks and share your journeys so we can grow together.”
The TRESP-TPD project, supported by the World Bank, is designed to strengthen teaching practices, promote inclusive education, and establish sustainable peer-mentoring networks. Teachers are being trained to use Structured Classroom Resources (SCRs), lesson plans, and activity-based methods aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The Transform Trust has been pivotal in co-developing training modules, facilitating state-wide trainings, and leading Teacher Professional Development (TPD). It has also focused on strengthening systemic processes for effective planning, execution, and monitoring of TPD. This partnership with SCERT and the Department of Secondary Education (DoSE) has ensured that inclusiveness and quality remain central to teacher training and classroom-based reforms, ultimately working in favour of our young adolescents.
This Master Trainer Training is part of the broader vision to bridge learning gaps, particularly in tribal and rural schools, to enhance teachers’ proficiency and thereby impact student engagement and learning outcomes.
