Panchayat Polls: CPI (M) urges SEC to extend claim, objection period for 10 more days
Opposition CPI (M) on Thursday urges the State Election Commissioner (SEC) to extend the ongoing claim and objection period of draft electoral rolls for Panchayat elections for next ten days.
CPI (M) state secretary and leader of opposition (LoP), Jitendra Chaudhury in a letter to the State Election Commissioner (SEC) on Thursday in a letter alleged that ‘soon after the results of Lok Sabha elections announced, the BJP followers spearheaded attacks on the houses of opposition supporters, vandalized CPI (M) offices, carried on physical attacks on CPI (M) activists in various places of the state.’
“They also did not hesitate to physically assault the CPI(M) representatives in block premises where they were intending to represent the party in all party meeting convened by the BDOs,” said Chaudhury in his letter to SEC and added that these incidents happened at Boxanagar of Sonamura and Salema of Kamalpur subdivisions.
He also said that several block offices have become inaccessible for the CPI (M) activists due to active threat from the miscreants owing allegiance to the ruling party.
Chaudhury urged the SEC and in view of the present terrible situation, they demanded extension of last date of claim and objection on voters list for another 10 days to get sufficient time to scrutinize the voter list to see whether Panchayat and ward wise segregation of draft voter list was made properly.
