Promising doctor from Tripura killed in road mishap in Haryana on Holi night
During the celebration of Holi festival, a tragic news plunged a the prominent Bhowmik family of Kalyanpur under Khowai district into deep grief as their son Dr. Lilotpala Bhowmik, a highly promising young doctor from Tripura died in a road accident in Haryana state.
Sources said that the accident occurred late at night on March 4th last and the victim's family was informed that the authorities contacted them using the mobile phone found at the accident site.
Following the sudden demise of their only son, father Nirmalendu Bhowmik and other family members left for Haryana immediately and hence could not be reached for comments.
According to preliminary information shared by former bank official Amlendu Bhowmik, the deceased, Dr. Lilotpala was returning to his residence late at night after Holi celebrations. He was riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by a recently married South Indian classmate. While negotiating a bend on the road, the rider reportedly lost control and the motorcycle crashed into a tree. Both riders were thrown off the bike. It is reported that neither of them was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, and both died due to severe head injuries.
It may be recalled here that Dr. Lilotpala completed his Higher Secondary education from Sri Krishna Mission School in 2013 and obtained his MBBS degree from Tripura Medical College (TMC), Hapania in 2018. He later worked at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) and was also associated with the ESI facility in Agartala. In 2023, he enrolled for an MD course in Biochemistry at BPS Government Medical College in Khanpur, Haryana. With only three months left to complete his postgraduate course, the tragic accident claimed the lives of the two young doctors.
Members of the social organization “Kalyanpuriyan” expressed deep grief over the untimely death. The organization’s secretary, Dr. Tapas Kumar Sarkar, extended condolences to the bereaved family, stating that the state had not only lost a son of Kalyanpur but also a specialist doctor and a bright star of the future.
The tragic news also revived memories of another heartbreaking incident just three months ago, when Dr. Saptarshi Das, son of Sushanta Shekhar Das of Ramnagar-1, along with three other doctor friends, died in a devastating road accident near Delhi. The untimely demise of such talented youths has cast a shadow of sorrow across the state.
