A court in Khowai district of Tripura of Thursday has sentenced seven Bangladeshi nationals to imprisonment in two separate cases involving illegal entry into India under the Immigration and Foreigners Act.
In the first case, the Judicial Magistrate, First Class, Khowai, on Thursday sentenced three Bangladeshi nationals — Pritam Sarkar, Goutam Sarkar and Razat Das — to 115 days of simple imprisonment each.
The three, residents of Gazipur district in Bangladesh, were convicted under Section 21 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act in connection with PRC (WP) 82/2026, arising from Champahour police station Case No. 18/2026.
According to the case details, BSF personnel on June 22, 2026, apprehended five persons near Asharambari Border Outpost (BOP) under Champahour police station of Khowai district. The group included three Bangladeshi nationals who had allegedly entered India illegally and two Indian touts. Mobile phones, Bangladeshi and Indian currencies, a fraudulently obtained Aadhaar card, ATM cards and other articles were seized during the search.
Following investigation, ASI Shyamal Debbarma of Champahour police station submitted the charge-sheet on August 21, 2026. The trial court subsequently found the accused guilty and sentenced them accordingly.
In a separate case, the same Khowai court sentenced four Bangladeshi nationals to 100 days of simple imprisonment each for offences under the Immigration and Foreigners Act.
The convicts were identified as Masoom Seikh (21), Rabiul Seikh (18), Samsul Hoque (26) and Mithun Chandra Saha (24), all residents of Chapai Nababganj district in Bangladesh.
The case dates back to July 20, 2026, when Khowai Police, acting on secret information, apprehended the four Bangladeshi nationals at Khowai Motor Stand around 1:55 pm. During questioning, they reportedly admitted to entering India illegally with the assistance of Indian touts. Forged Aadhaar and PAN cards, along with Bangladeshi identity documents, were also seized from their possession.
SI Debaprasad Chakraborty of Khowai Police Station subsequently submitted the charge-sheet on September 7, 2026. The trial court found all four accused guilty and sentenced them to 100 days of simple imprisonment each.
