Seven-day long Heimantiya workshop on ‘Kumārasambhavaḥ’ at CSU, Ekalavya campus inaugurated
The Department of Sahitya, Central Sanskrit University, Ekalavya Campus, inaugurated a seven-day-long Heimantiya Workshop on ‘Kumārasambhavaḥ’, a celebrated Sanskrit epic by Mahakavi Kalidasa. The workshop aims to delve deep into the literary, philosophical, and poetic nuances of this classical text.
The inaugural ceremony took place in the esteemed presence of Prof. Devnarayan Jha, Former Vice Chancellor of Kameshwarsingh Darbhanga Sanskrit University, as the Chief Guest. The event was further graced by Prof. Shivaram Sharma, Former Head of the Department of Sahitya, Banaras Hindu University, as the Guest of Honour. Prof. Prabhat Kumar Mohapatra, Director of the Campus, presided over the inaugural session, while Dr. Paritosh Das, Head of the School of Languages, Literature & Culture, CSU, Ekalavya Campus is the Coordinator of this scholarly gathering.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Devnarayan Jha remarked, "Kumārasambhavaḥ stands as a literary gem that not only narrates the divine union of Siva and Parvati but also offers deep philosophical insights. This workshop will surely serve as a platform for scholars and students to engage with the text critically and aesthetically."
Prof. Shivaram Sharma emphasized the significance of Kalidasa’s poetry in the contemporary world, stating, "Through workshops like this, we can revive and reinvigorate interest in Sanskrit literature, ensuring its continuity and relevance for future generations."
Presiding over the event, Prof. Prabhat Kumar Mohapatra lauded the efforts of the Department of Sahitya and expressed confidence that this initiative would foster in-depth discussions and fresh interpretations of the epic.
The workshop will feature a series of lectures, discussions, and interactive sessions with eminent scholars, providing a holistic exploration of ‘Kumārasambhavaḥ.’ Scholars, researchers, and students from various institutions are participating in this academic endeavour.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Swarga Kumar Mishra, Assistant Professor (Sahitya)acknowledging the support of the university administration, faculty members, and participants.
