Seven including a woman injured in clashes after pet dog slaughtered to sale its meat in Unakoti

At least seven people including a woman injured after a violent clash erupted on Wednesday night in Ward No. 1 of Hirachhara ADC Village under Gournagar RD Block of Unakoti district, disputing slaughter of a pet dog for consumption and the sale of its meat.
All injured individuals were admitted to Unakoti district hospital and some have critical multiple injuries.
Sources said that allegations had surfaced earlier against three individuals in the Hirachhara area for allegedly slaughtering and eating dogs and selling pet dogs meat. One of the accused, Pintu Das, had been absconding since the allegations were made.
Reportedly, on Wednesday night, relatives of Pintu Das launched a sudden attack at the house of the main complainant, Rajaram Nuniya Munda. In the scuffle, Rajaram’s wife, Surji Gaur, and others including Golap Chasha, Budhan Chasha, and Sultan Ali, were seriously injured while trying to resist the attackers.
Local sources claimed that Golap Chasha, his younger brother, and Sultan Ali were attacked with sharp weapons, resulting in severe injuries. They were admitted to the hospital with multiple critical injuries.
On the other hand, relatives of Pintu Das alleged that Rajaram Nuniya Munda and his associates attacked the house of Chandan Das. While trying to defend himself, Chandan Das and Sama Bauri sustained injuries. Reports say Chandan Das suffered serious injuries to his eye.
While, after receiving the report of the clash, a large number of police force from Kailashahar and Irani police stations, led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Jayanta Karmakar rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Tension continues to grip the area, and police forces remain deployed to maintain law and order amidst escalating tension over possible group clash among accused party and complainant.
Police sources added that they have launched an investigation and appropriate legal action will be taken against those found guilty.
