Demonstrating its commitment to cleanliness, environmental sustainability and operational health readiness, the Indian Army’s Spear Corps organised a comprehensive educational and awareness programme for troops stationed at Agartala Military Station on Tuesday as part of the nationwide Swachh Bharat Campaign.
The day-long initiative focused on reinforcing the values of cleanliness, personal hygiene and environmental responsibility among service personnel while promoting sustainable practices in daily military routines and garrison management.
The programme commenced with a keynote address highlighting the vision and national significance of ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2026’. The address emphasised that cleanliness is an integral part of military discipline, national responsibility and operational efficiency.
Interactive sessions on environmental conservation were also conducted, encouraging troops to remain mindful of their daily habits and their impact on the surrounding ecosystem. Personnel were urged to adopt energy-efficient practices, minimise wastage of resources and contribute towards the preservation of local ecosystems.
A clinical awareness session on Swachhta was conducted by an Army Medical Officer, focusing on personal hygiene, sanitation and cleanliness as essential components of maintaining the health and operational readiness of troops.
Soldiers were also sensitised to modern waste-management practices based on the principles of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recharge. Special emphasis was placed on reducing plastic waste, recycling organic materials and replenishing groundwater through rainwater-harvesting systems within military stations.
An Army official said, “Cleanliness and environmental responsibility are force multipliers that directly contribute to troop morale, health and operational readiness. Through initiatives under the Swachh Bharat Campaign, the Spear Corps remains committed to leading by example in preserving our ecosystems and ensuring the highest standards of sanitation across all garrisons.”
The Spear Corps of the Indian Army is responsible for maintaining operational readiness and security along the North-Eastern frontier. In addition to its operational responsibilities, the formation actively contributes to nation-building, disaster relief, community development and environmental protection across the region.
