The BJP Chief Whip of the Tripura Legislative Assembly and MLA of Teliamura Assembly constituency, Kalyani Saha Roy, narrowly escaped a major road accident in the Baromura hill area on Monday.
Sources said that the incident occurred while the MLA was returning to Teliamura from Agartala. A Bolero pickup vehicle allegedly lost its control while passing a bend in the Baromura hill ranges and dashed with the MLA’s vehicle.
As a result, the driver of the MLA’s vehicle sustained injuries in the collision. MLA Kalyani Saha Roy, her two security personnel and her confidential assistant (CA) also suffered minor injuries.
Following the accident, local residents and security personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the injured persons. After the incident was reported, police personnel from the Champaknagar Outpost reached the spot and seized the Bolero pickup vehicle.
The incident created a panic in the area after news of the accident spread. However, all those injured are reported to be out of danger and safe.
Police sources said that they have initiated an investigation into the incident.
