Tension in Panisagar after 5 thieves stole a domestic cow, slaughtered
Issuing lifting of a cow and subsequent slaughtering by suspected five thieves, tension escalates in a tribal dominated village of Panisagar subdivision under North Tripura district.
On Sunday, after the incident, villagers and police have recovered mortal remains of that cow and have also arrested three cow lifters, who were after stealing the cow and slaughtered it and divided the meat among themselves.
According to reports, the incident took place in the remote tribal area of Chandrahalam Para village under Panisagar police station. Allegedly, a cow belonging to Dipak Nath was stolen from his home on Saturday night. Later, the goat’s head and some other parts of the body were found in the nearby area. The matter was reported to the police. Immediately, the incident caused unrest in the area.
In the meantime, on Sunday morning, locals discovered some bones and other body parts of the cow in a house at tribal dominated village, Sonaram Para under Pecharthal police station.
Police arrested that house owner and two other suspected thieves.During interrogation, one of them admitted to having knowledge of lifting of cow. Based on his confession, the police recovered the head and other parts of the cow from the forest.
The two accused have confessed that they stole the cow for meat.
Police added that three arrested thieves were identified as Rajendra Chakma, Suresh Chakma and Mintu Chakma, who were produced before a local court for further legal proceedings.
The brutal killing of domestic cow has caused widespread outrage in the Chandrahalam Para village Panisagar. Locals have demanded the harshest punishment for the accused.
Police added that they have launched a manhunt to arrest two remaining accused persons and have also deployed some additional forces to defuse escalating tension.
