Thief raided in a jewellery shop in front of Bishalgarh PS, looted valuable items

In a brazen challenge to the police, thieves raided a jewellery shop right in front of Bishalgarh police station early Monday morning and looted away some valuable items from that shop.

According to reports, at around 4:30 AM on Monday, one thief broke in through the back door of Bholanath Jewellers, located just in front of the Bishalgarh police station. He attempted to break into the store’s locker but failed. Eventually, he fled with Rs 30,000 worth of items, including cash from the cash box.

Although the entire incident was captured on CCTV, the Bishalgarh police have been unable to identify the thief. Moreover, the CCTV cameras installed in front of both the Bishalgarh police station and Bishalgarh Women’s police station are reportedly non-functional.

Local traders are accusing the police of sitting idle and doing nothing and they claimed that CCTV cameras were installed more for aesthetic purposes than for actual surveillance.

The thieves boldly committed the crime right in front of the police station, effectively challenging the authorities, while the police allegedly did nothing. In contrast, in a recent case in Chennai, Tamil Nadu police identified and apprehended thieves from Tripura.. While other police can swiftly identify and capture criminals from Tripura, the local police fail to protect the businesses right under their nose.

Even though there is a night guard in the Bishalgarh market, thefts are frequently occurring at various shops. This raises serious questions among the traders.

Meanwhile, on Monday morning, police officials, along with market association leaders including president Babul Saha and secretary Babul Debnath, rushed to the crime scene. Pressured by the traders, the police started working on identifying the thief. However, many believe it's inevitable that the police will fail in their efforts.

Bishnu Debnath, the owner of the looted jewellery store, expressed doubt over how a store that’s practically in the line of sight of the police station could be targeted so easily. Traders now question whether any business in Bishalgarh market is truly safe at night.

The traders collectively hold the police partially or indirectly responsible, accusing them of negligence in their duties, as thefts continue to plague the market.
