Thieves looted a jewellery shop at Churaibari, stolen away jewelleries worth nearly Rs 1 crore
In a daring burglary incident on Tuesday midnight in Churaibari of North Tripura district at jewellery shop “Samrat Jewellers,” looted valuable gold, silver jewelleries and some gemstones worth about Rs. 1 crore.
The Jewellery shop owned by Sumat Dey, located on Swami Vivekananda Road of Churaibari area and according to the shop’s manager, Uttam Kumar Dhar, the incident came to light around 9 AM on Wednesday when he opened the store and found everything inside ransacked. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the miscreants had cut through the tin roof of the shop to enter into the shop and they looted gold, silver, and various precious stones, with the total loss initially estimated to be Rs 1 crore.
After the incident came to light, a large number of local residents gathered at the spot and they informed the Churaibari police station.
Police sources said they visited the incident spot and began a preliminary investigation, registering the case.
Local sources revealed that this is not the first such incident at Sumat Dey’s shop. Several thefts have reportedly taken place there in the past. Moreover, multiple similar cases of roof-cutting burglaries have occurred in the area, but police have yet to solve any of them. This has led to growing anger among residents, who are also questioning the effectiveness of night patrols.
Meanwhile, the owner of Samrat Jewellers, Sumat Dey, is said to be mentally devastated. A significant portion of the stolen jewellery reportedly belonged to customers who had entrusted their valuables to the shop. He is now deeply worried about how he will compensate them.
