Three Bangladeshi nationals, two Indian touts arrested in Kailashahar for illegal entry
Amid continuing incidents of illegal infiltration from Bangladesh into Tripura, police arrested three Bangladeshi nationals along with two Indian human traffickers from the Paiturbazar motor stand area of Kailashahar in Unakoti district on Sunday.
According to police sources, personnel noticed suspicious movement of a Maruti van carrying five passengers on Sunday morning. The vehicle was intercepted while it was heading towards Dharmanagar. During questioning, three Bangladeshi nationals—identified as Arman Hussain, Imran Hussain and Manir Hussain, all residents of Comilla district in Bangladesh—were found travelling without valid documents. Two Indian nationals, identified as Faruq Miah and Abdul Kayem, were also arrested for allegedly facilitating their movement.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the Bangladeshi nationals had entered India illegally with the help of the two Indian touts and were attempting to reach Dharmanagar by car, from where they planned to board a long-distance train to Chennai.
Police said all five accused will be produced before a local court on Monday with a plea for police remand. A specific case has been registered under the Foreigners Act, 1946, and Section 3 of the Passport (Entry into India) Amendment Act, 2000. The vehicle used in the operation was also seized.
Illegal infiltration into northeastern states, particularly Tripura and Assam, has remained a concern, with security forces arresting hundreds of Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas over the past few months. Although infiltration had reduced significantly for a brief period due to tightened border security following Operation ‘Sindoor’, fresh cases have surfaced again in recent months.
On January 31, 2026, BSF personnel detained two more Bangladeshi nationals from the border area of Joynagar under West Agartala police station and handed them over to the police for further legal action.
